Three more Nigerian nationals arrested while illegally crossing into India from Bangladesh via night bus

Three more Nigerian nationals were arrested on Wednesday, September 18, while crossing over to India through Bangladesh in a night bus.

A statement issued on Wednesday, by Meghalaya Police said that the trio, who were travelling in a night super bus from Agartala to Guwahati could not produce any valid documents to support their entry in India from Bangladesh.

Recall that a total of 14 foreign nationals, 12 of whom are from Nigeria, have been arrested in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills district for entering the country illegally via Bangladesh during the last four days. Read here

The police, who have informed Ministry of External Affairs about this, believe there are larger designs behind this sudden illegal immigration of the foreign nationals.

“As far as the investigation was carried out, they have been entering India illegally and they may even be involved in cyber crimes too. As of now, there is no link with drug trafficking but that can’t be ruled out. One of the arrested also has a criminal case in Goa and we are now following up on the case,” said East Jaintia Hills superintendent of police (SP) Vivekanand Singh.

The arrested Nigerian nationals did not enter Meghalaya directly said Singh.

“Of the 14, 13 entered the state through Tripura. They then travelled by road to Silchar and boarded a bus to Guwahati. Most probably, they were moving towards New Delhi, Goa or Mumbai. We suspect the remaining person must have entered from Assam,” the SP added.

The police, who have been on their toes curtailing drug trafficking, detained three foreign nationals on Friday, after they failed to present their passports. After interrogation, they then presented their passports which were hidden inside their shoes. The passports presented had no Indian visa stamp on it. The trio then mentioned that they had flown to Dhaka and had travelled to the bordering areas by road and were later assisted by some people to cross over to India.

After the incident, the police were alerted and they started conducting round the clock checking. The following night, another six were arrested, followed by three others the night after.

According to the police, the arrested persons, aged between 20 and 40 years, were found to be educated and were well-versed in English language. They were booked under Foreigner’s Act.

Meanwhile, SP Vivekanand Singh is in touch with his counterparts in Goa and has received the documents and details about the case of one of the persons with a criminal case for overstaying in Goa.

Nnamdi Kanu Petitions United Nations Over Alleged Human Rights Abuses In Nigeria |The Republican News

Edward Nnachi

Leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, on Thursday, petitioned the United Nations and its relevant agencies over alleged human rights abuses suffered by its people at the hands of the Nigerian government.

A statement signed by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Director, Comrade Emma Powerful, which was made available to The PUNCH, in Abakaliki, hinted that there was hope that the UN and officials in Geneva, were giving adequate attention to the various human rights abuses allegedly perpetrated against members of the group.

The statement read, “The enigma championing the current restoration quest of Biafra and leader of the indomitable Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, today, the 18th day of September 2019, scored yet another mark as he led a delegation of Biafrans to an all-important series of meetings with various United Nations agencies and its officials in Geneva.

“He demanded urgent action against the numerous rights abuses inflicted daily upon Biafrans and the need to support the undeniable right of Biafrans to self-determination as enshrined in law, statute and various UN conventions. The case of RUGA settlement by stealth was also raised and the august body was left in doubt that Biafrans will never allow Fulani settlements in Biafraland.

“Every issue concerning our people is now before the various arms and agencies of the United Nations. Our case will no longer be ignored.

“‘Every issue concerning our people’ as mentioned by Kanu ranges from the incessant killing of Biafrans in their own land, extortion and killing of Biafran motorcyclists and commercial drivers.

“Exploiting the rights of indigenous people to self-determination as provided by the UN charter 2007, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in his usual charismatic poise has conscientiously pursued freedom for the oppressed people of Biafra.

“He also raised the issue of the continued illegal detention of Omoleye Sowore, the relentless persecution of the members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria led by Sheikh El-Zakzaky, ongoing tragic ethnic cleansing in the Middle Belt and plight of Christian minorities in core North. From every indication, there is palpable air of assurance that all the years of neglect of Biafra as a global issue requiring serious attention is now a thing of the past.”

Baseball star Felipe Vazquez admits he had sex with a 13-year-old girl he ‘met on Instagram’

Pittsburgh Pirates relief pitcher, Felipe Vazquez has admitted he had sexual contact with a 13-year-old girl.

The 28-year-old Venezuelan professional baseball star who was arrested on Tuesday, September 17, said he drove to the house of the girl in 2017 and engaged in sexual activity with her in his car.

According to a criminal complaint released by the Pennsylvania State Police, Vazquez admitted that he had sexual contact with a 13-year-old girl hours before a game in 2017 and exchanged nude photographs and videos with her.

He has been charged with three felonies, including statutory sexual assault and unlawful contact with a minor. The age of consent in Pennsylvania is 16.

Vazquez was also charged with computer pornography offenses in Florida.

In the criminal complaint, Vazquez told police that the girl first contacted him on Instagram in 2017, but an incident report from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office in Florida said Vazquez met the girl in person at the Pirates’ stadium, where the two took a picture together outside the bullpen.

He reportedly told authorities he initially declined to communicate with the girl on social media because of how young she looked, but after she began sending him nude photographs, he responded by sending her nude photographs of himself.

The authorities said at a news conference that the girl, who is now 15, was the victim in both the Pennsylvania and Florida cases. Vazquez was held without bond in an Allegheny County jail after a judge denied him bail on Tuesday.

TV star Thomas Middleditch says having sex with others saved his marriage after asking wife for an open relationship

star Thomas Middleditch has revealed having sex with others saved his marriage after he asked his wife for an open relationship.

The actor, who appears in Silicon Valley, said he spoke to his wife Mollie Gates shortly after they got married when he noticed his urge to have sex with other people didn’t go away.

His wife was in support of swinging and they made their marriage open. Middleditch and Mollie now attend swinging parties, but he admitted it is easier for him to find women to sleep with because of his fame.

The star told Playboy: “I don’t know how much I can say, because I don’t want my wife to be mad at me. Only after I got married was I like, ‘Mollie, I’m sorry, but we have to get nontraditional here.’

“To her credit, instead of saying ‘f**k you, I’m out,’ she was like, ‘let’s figure this out’.

“To be honest, swinging has saved our marriage. We have different speeds, and we argue over it constantly, but it’s better than feeling unheard and alone and that you have to scurry in the shadows.”

The Godzilla: King of the Monsters star said being “part of the lifestyle” wasn’t something he wanted but admitted it was “part of me”.

Middleditch added: “I self-deprecatingly call myself a pervert, but that’s not what it is. I just like it. I’m sexual.”

He insisted he loved his costume designer wife Mollie “like I’ve never loved anyone before”.

He told the magazine that they have “strict rules”  about the open relationship and work together as a “unit”.

He added: “There’s a lot of negotiation, and adding fame sometimes makes it easier and sometimes complicates things.

“My first concern is Mollie. Anything that happens has to be run by the queen.”

As I celebrate my 44th birthday today, I call for peace across our dear country’ – 2face Idibia

Nigerian musician, Innocent Ujah Idibia otherwise called ‘2baba’ turns 44 today.

In his special birthday message to his fans and Nigerians as a whole, the multiple award winning singer said, ‘as I celebrate my birthday today, I call for peace across our dear country, Nigeria. Different forms of violence including electoral, banditry, herders and farmers conflicts, kidnapping and terrorism have and continue to snatch the lives of Nigeria’s citizens’.

See the rest of his article below…

Let’s be clear, this is not a salvo to attack the government, I am not a politician but an artist and social rights crusader. I am calling on government (i.e our political leadership, security services etc.); and all citizens (i.e artists, entrepreneurs, media okada riders etc.) to do everything we can and must do to promote and guarantee peace.

On my part, I have dedicated myself to mobilizing Nigerian youth and engaging political, security and traditional authorities to promote peaceful elections since 2014. I have worked with talented youth across Nigeria to reach 62 million people with the message of “elections without violence” as the Ambassador of the Vote Not Fight: Election No Be War campaign.

I will be leading the campaign’s efforts to promote peace during the November 16, 2019 governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa States. As Nigerians, we must join hands together to resist violence across our country, in whatever nature in manifests. Government must however take the lead on this, as there are limits to what citizens can do – no matter how well intentioned.

As the November 16, 2019 Kogi and Bayelsa governorship elections approach, we must remember that the legitimacy of any government lies with its emergence from a peaceful, free, fair and credible election.

I call on Kogi and Bayelsa youth to say NO to politicians who may offer them money to perpetrate violence or buy their votes. Let your conscience lead you. In relation to all forms of violence across Nigeria we need to remember that there can be no development without peace. We need to make the wise choice for the future as violence erodes our values and kills our people.

We must also look out for the vices of hate speech, fake news, misinformation and disinformation which are certified triggers of violence.

One love my people, thank you for all the support over these years.

Innocent Ujah Idibia
